There is a nice video explaining the basic rules and providing you with the minimum of understanding on how soldering actually works.
Facts:
- Flux is used to clean the surface to avoid oxides blocking solder to make proper contact
- Most solder wire has a flux core inside
- When solder is applied to soldering iron, the fumes are from the flux core
- Dirt, oxides and overheating are the main causes of joint cracks
Keep in mind:
- Keep it clean: clean the surface and apply flux
- Move your join
- Use the largest tip to provide with enough heat transer
- Rule of THUMB: use slightly smaller tip than your pan you soldering to
Hopefully this post may help!
Good luck!
