Soldering: The basics

It is time to gather some information to get started with your Arduino!
There is a nice video explaining the basic rules and providing you with the minimum of understanding on how soldering actually works.

Facts:
  • Flux is used to clean the surface to avoid oxides blocking solder to make proper contact
  • Most solder wire has a flux core inside
  • When solder is applied to soldering iron, the fumes are from the flux core
  • Dirt, oxides and overheating are the main causes of joint cracks
Keep in mind:
  • Keep it clean: clean the surface and apply flux
  • Move your join
  • Use the largest tip to provide with enough heat transer
  • Rule of THUMB: use slightly smaller tip than your pan you soldering to

Hopefully this post may help!
Good luck!
